Summer Gardening Getaways
This hand's on series of gardening workshops teaches all aspects of sustainable food production: planting, harvesting, preserving, composting and cooking. The package includes two nights lodging, breakfast daily, boxed lunches and a gourmet dinner using produce harvested right from the farm.
     Instructor Scott Weaner, a certified Master Gardener and Master Naturalist, has been growing vegetables, herbs and flowers for chefs and florists at nearby Rolling Thunder Food Farm since 1976. He has drawn from various philosophies and literature such as Biodynamics, French Intensive, Pasture and Grassland Management, and the modern Organic Standards. Cost for each weekend is $199 each (double occupancy) which includes two nights lodging, breakfast daily, two boxed lunches, and one dinner. Minimum of 6 participants, maximum of 20. Rooms are available on a first come, first served basis.

Summer Solstice Weekend: June 21st and 22nd
    
This hands-on workshop focuses on the first tender crops of the season, including asparagus, lettuces, greens, chard, peas and more. The event will end with a wild food foraging walk led by Master Naturalist Kim Clements. Option: Students interested in free-range chicken production can assist Scott with early morning butchering before the Saturday workshop.

Summer’s Bounty Weekend: August 2nd and 3rd
     In early August the garden’s productivity is peaking and harvest chores are plentiful. This workshop focuses on healthy harvest techniques and post-harvest processing. Crops will include numerous varieties of squash, beans, tomatoes, broccoli, greens, including heirloom and gourmet varieties grown for the restaurant market. Participants will experience all aspects of peak summer gardening including harvesting, preserving and processing. The event will end with a wild food foraging walk led by Master Naturalist Kim Clements.

Season’s End Weekend: September 13th and 14th
     As fall approaches the garden’s productivity begins to wane. This workshop focuses on the transition from summer to fall, as final summer crops are harvested and fall plantings take their place. Participants will experience all aspects of late summer gardening including herb harvesting and drying, canning, composting and cover crop planting.The event will end with a wild food foraging walk led by Master Naturalist Kim Clements.


Birding in Canaan Package
Bird watching in the Canaan area is outstanding in every season. The inn is only minutes away from prime birding at Canaan, Blackwater Falls, the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge and the Dolly Sods Wilderness area. Canaan's famland, meadows, pines and deciduous trees provide a variety of bird watching habitats, producing Bobolinks, thrusheds, vireos, and warblers. Blackwater Falls and Cathedral State Parks provide beautiful backdrops for viewing Yellow-billed Cuckoos, Eastern Wood-Pewees, and Blackburnian and Black-throated Blue Warblers. Dolly Sods Recreation Area is a grassy, tundra-like habitat with both wet and dry areas. In the fall, it hosts songbirdbanding and hawk-watch programs.
Our 2-night bird watching package includes two nights lodging at the inn, full breakfast daily, one box lunch and a copy of the outstanding (and waterproof) Canaan Valley Adventure Map, with marked trails for exploring the area. Cost: $99 per person (double occupancy); $135 per person (single occupancy)

Lazy Day Canoe Trip
This relaxing canoe trip along the Cheat River starts below Parsons, WV and ends six miles downriver at the headquarters of Blackwater Outdoor Adventures, in historic St. George, WV. Suitable for novice paddlers, this mellow unguided trip in light current is perfect for wildlife watching, fishing, swimming and photography. Great for families. Package includes two nights lodging at the inn, full breakfast daily, boxed lunch, canoes/gear/shuttle. For snorkel rentals add $5 each.Cost:$116 per person (double occupancy)Plus 9% sales tax

Spa Weekend

Recharge your batteries with a weekend of fresh air, exercise and invigorating massage. Settle in on Friday night with a complimentary bottle of wine and snacks. Start the morning with a delicious breakfast then take off for hiking or skiing. Afterwards, you'll have a massage with Kristin Douglas, one of two town massage therapists. Kristin's serene studio is in the historic National Bank of Davis building. Have dinner in town and then head to bed -- or to Thomas, for live music at the Purple Fiddle. Awake the next morning to another great breakfast, then explore the nearby Blackwater Falls state park before heading home. It's a change of scenery, change of pace weekend -- just what you need to get back in the saddle on Monday!

Strike out on your own, and explore the best mountain biking in the East with this introductory bike package from the biking experts at Blackwater Bikes in downtown Davis. Package includes a full day's bike rental from Blakwater's fleet of front suspension Kona Cinder Cone bikes, two nights lodging, full breakfast daily, one boxed lunch and a waterproof Canaan Valley Adventure map with fully marked trails and trail information.
